This is my first blog and it is my attempt to take more notice of the world around me. I plan to take a photo a day for 356 days, hopefully it will show that there are interesting things happening around me, and that my life isn't too dull!

Wish me luck.

3 November 2010

Two figures finally completed, with only a small (not) amount of nagging necessary, now it is just the background that needs to be done.

2 November 2010

Another night time picture!

1 November 2010

This is the start of the second piece of my daughters college project, it will be interesting to see who it looks when she is finished.

31 October 2010

It's Halloween! i bought this pumpkin to carve for Halloween, but typically October 31 came round and i still hadn't done anything with it, so the little girl from next door came round, drew a face on it, and away we carved!

30 October 2010

This is part of a project my daughter is doing for college, never one for making life easy for herself, she created this intricate piece which will be accompanied with another piece which i am sure will be just as detailed.

29 October 2010

I had quite a surprise at work today, i found out that i have been working at the same place for 10 years! It's a bit scary that the time has gone by that quickly. During that time both my daughters have been to and left senior school, my eldest has been to college and left for uni, my youngest has started college, i've moved house, had my first experience on a plane, made some friends (one who is now my best friend) and owned four different cars! The bouquet was given to me to represent the 10 years.

28 October 2010

Tee hee, my camera works in the dark!!

27 October 2010

This is a stone rose from Tunisia. The are called stone roses, but are not like the stone roses we would see in the UK. When my partner and i found out what it was called, we bought it instantly (it was very cheap), unfortunately the relevance of the name (being the same as a certain band) was completely lost on the locals.

26 October 2010

As i was leaving work and getting into the car, the sun just caught my eye, so i took this photo of the sun just shining through the trees.

25 October 2010

What do you do when you have some Mr Men figures, but no shelf space to put them? You put them in a vase! A novel approach, but effective.

24 October 2010

I have now painted the bee lodge and butterfly house and placed them outside for the bees and butterflies to use over the winter. It will be interesting to see if they do actually get used over the winter, i hope so, but only time will tell.

23 October 2010

The Doctor seems to turn up everywhere, this time he was at Bournmouth University during an open day. Unfortunately we didn't see him which is probably a good thing as he only goes where strange things are happening, but thankfully my youngest daughter really like the university, we just have to make sure she gets a place before the fees go up.

22 October 2010

This was a cold morning, the car was in the shade and still had a thin layer of ice on the windows when i left for work. Time to start wrapping up!

21 October 2010

A tree lined road is always nice, but in autumn before all the leaves have fallen away, a tree lined road always looks nicer as there is more interest with the different colours.

20 October 2010

As a belated birthday present i was given a camera, so what is the first thing you do with a camera? You play! To my surprise the camera took this picture of leaves on a tree that wasn't that close to where i was standing at the time.

19 October 2010

There are brambles throughout my garden, so in an attempt to reduce the amount i cut many of them back and applied weed killer. The brambles i had cut were left in a pile ready to go into the recycle bin, but as i was about to do this i noticed three ladybirds sitting on a leaf. Ladybirds clearly like spikey plants, so it is just as well there are still some blackberry bushes and roses around for them to shelter in.

18 October 2010

I know i shouldn't be surprised by where plants manged to grow, but finding this plant in this bag of sand did catch me out. The plant has sinced beem moved to a pot, let's hope it grows into something nice, rather than a weed - it won't be the first time i have mistakenly grown a weed!

17 October 2010

I know it is a weed, but dandelions are so pretty. It's rare to see one that is complete or if you do as soon as you go near one they usually shatter. I managed to take this photo before a breeze blew and scattered it, or before anyone picked it and blew into it.

16 October 2010

It is my neice's birthday soon, and this card just called out to be bought. How cute is this cat? What a perfect birthday card, unless you are a dog person!

15 October 2010

My youngest daughter is facinated with lava lamps, she has two (one is actually my partner's, but my daughter conveniently moved it into her bedroom). The shapes they produce as they warm up are amazing, although some of them are questionable!!

14 October 2010

Not quite a pile of leaves, but still enough of them to walk through and kick in the air!

13 October 2010

These figures were positioned outside MAC in Edgbaston, they add a bit of interest to the parking area and look to be inspired by the Antony Gormley figures which are located around the country.

12 October 2010

Why are all the best looking apples at the top of the tree?

11 October 2010

Autumn is an amazing season full of colour and change. This leaf with it's vibrant red colour stood out against the green hedge behind it and could be seen from a distance.

10 October 2010

This photo represents the stereotype of student life, i say stereotype because the student house my daughter lives in has four people who regularly cook meals a parent would be impressed with, and also because the reason the stack of pot noodles is so big is because no one eats them!!

9 October 2010

This was a real stroke of luck, the single branch that grew higher than the rest of the hedge was the perfect spot for this spider web, and luckily for me, the morning i saw there had been a frost which made the threads of the web easy to see, it also helped that there was a dark coloured van behind it.

8 October 2010

Yet another feather! If i had the time and inclination, i could probably turn this feather into a quill, but then would i ever use it? Probably not, and would i look sad? Most likely. So the feather stayed where is was, just looking nice on the grass.

7 October 2010

These weeds are positioned outside a field and are approximately 6ft tall, although they only have seed heads left, they are still really striking.

6 October 2010

Leaves are falling all around, most have changed into amazing colours, this leaf stood out against the green grass, and looked even better with the water droplets on it.

5 October 2010

You may or may not recognise this symbol, but it is one of the symbols used in an amazing series called Fringe. My partner and i love this series, it is one of the few times that we actually sit down together and watch something. If you haven't seen it yet, take a look, you won't regret it.

4 October 2010

Some of the shapes that appear in nature really amaze me, how do plants manage to grow with such symmetry and strength. This honeysuckle somehow manages to defy gravity, as it is top heavy but still looks amazing because of it.

3 October 2010

Sometimes you come across a book, and you just know you have to buy it. The Boy with the Cuckoo Clock Heart by Mathias Malzieu is one of these books, the cover is so beautiful that even after i have read it i am going to put it on display on the book shelf (when i eventually get one, but that is another story).

2 October 2010

It may be autumn, but it is good to see that there are still flowers blooming, and not ones that look like they could survive a hurricane. These were pictured in Jephson Gardens, always a good source of inspiration.

1 October 2010

More fungi! These look like they would shelter small creatures, maybe they are the bus shelters of the bug world.

30 September 2010

These look amazing but won't be around for long (i'll be cutting the grass soon), there are so many different varieties around but these have grown in a clump rather than individually.

29 September 2010

I don't know what kind of stone this is, but it looks good. I love the colour contrast between the hard stone and the soft grass surrounding it.

28 September 2010

There are lots of fallen feathers around at the moment, fluffy ones, others big enough to use as quills (almost). There must be a number of flightless birds out there!

27 September 2010

I'm not a big fan of jewellery, but when i opened this present from my best friend, i knew, as she did, that it was perfect for me. I guess that is why best friends are best friends, they often know you betterthan you do.

26 September 2010

It's good to know that dropping subtle (or in my case not so subtle) hints when wanting something for my birthday. My eldest daughter bought me a lovely gift set of the Marc Jacobs fragrance Daisy. The box set also contained a travel bottle of Daisy and a little pouch. Nice!

25 September 2010

These are my furry feet! These were one of my birthday presents. I am always complaining about haveing cold hands and feet, but i need never worry about cold feet anymore (or at least for as long as these last), especially as my daughter bought me large ones to fit layers of socks under them!

24 September 2010

As a treat, my daughters and i went to a little Sixties style cafe where we had these amazing chocolate milkshakes, while we sat on glittery padded seats, surrounded with icons from the era.

23 September 2010

Yep, it's that special day and here are some of the cards i recieved. For some reason i recieved more cards this year than i have in a long time, i hope it isn't an age thing!

22 September 2010

It's a special day soon when i will be 21 again, and a friend bought me these lovely flowers. Unfortunately my partner still hasn't got the hint that i like flowers so the only time i get them is when friends buy them for me. Grrrr!

21 September 2010

Maybe i have watched a bit too much sci-fi, but this just looks like a pod of alien eggs ready to hatch and take over the human race, ok maybe it is just a harmless plant that has orange pods to spread seeds around, but you never know...

20 September 2010

The leaves on the plants are changing, some are going yellow, others red, but these Lilac leaves are so far managing to stay partly green, but developing tips of purple.

19 September 2010

Autumn is here and leaves are falling everywhere. The bottom of this bucket already has a layer of leaves, but this leaf has yet to drop, happily floating on top of the water until it is ready to sink.

18 September 2010

'Red (or in this case pink) sky at night, shepherds delight', a saying most people know. A red sky is always a pleasure to see, especially when it is more pink than red!

17 September 2010

You probably can't see the raindrops hitting the get ground, but believe me they are there and there are lots and lots of them!

16 September 2010

This little Robin is always very illusive when i have a camera nearby, usually by the time i have got the camera ready and focussed, he has flown off. This time however i managed to be quick enough to get a shot of him. There are usually two, but that is a photo for another day.

15 September 2010

This little plant was given to me by a friend, along with a mini venus fly trap, unfortunately the fly trap didn't survive being looked after while we were away for two weeks, but this little fellow is fighting fit. It started life as a leaf from another plant and after being put in a pot with some soil it has self rooted and grown into a new plant.
