This is my first blog and it is my attempt to take more notice of the world around me. I plan to take a photo a day for 356 days, hopefully it will show that there are interesting things happening around me, and that my life isn't too dull!

Wish me luck.

6 December 2010

Today it was really cold, possibly the coldest it has been this year, but the frost made the area around where i work, look beautiful. There were so many things to take a photo of, that it was really difficult to decide which picture to use, but i decided to use this picture that shows a row of trees completely covered with frost.

5 December 2010

There is frost everywhere, but the sun is out and this tree looks amazing. When i walked under it after taking this photo, a bird flew out of it and flakes fell off, it was just like snow.

4 December 2010

This is Coughton Court, home of the Throckmorton family since 1409. It holds a unique place in English history with its close connections to the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 (yes i did copy this from the Coughton Court website http://www.coughtoncourt.co.uk/). It is an amazing house, unfortunately, when my partner, my friend, her mum and i got there, we were only able to see the house as the gardens (the main reason we had gone there) were closed. It wasn't clear if the gardens are generally closed through the winter, or if they were just closed to to the recent bad weather.

3 December 2010

It's funny how when the weather is frosty you discover spiderwebs everywhere! The one on the left even looks like a spider.

2 December 2010

If you look closely, you can actually see the snow falling.

1 December 2010

My daughter borrowed my camera as here disappeared recently, to take pictures at the 30 Seconds to Mars gig she went to, so here is one of them.

30 November 2010

Another cold and now frosty day/evening makes for a good photo opportunity.

29 November 2010

It may be winter, but the sun is still out, even if it is behind clouds. Unfortunately all the leaves have fallen from this tree, but from this angle and in this light, it still looks beautiful.

28 November 2010

Arguably the best trilogy ever, although i do really like Lord of the Rings too, and yes i know the original three Star Wars films were good, but this is Toy Story, which would you choose?!

27 November 2010

This is 'The Riddle Master's Game' a trilogy in one, which has has some really good reviews. The book itself is no longer in print, but i managed to buy this copy secondhand at a fraction of the price some of the copies were going for!

26 November 2010

I probably look a bit weird standing next to a tree taking a photograph of it, but the trunk had a lot of detail, and i was curious as to how it would look as a photo.

25 November 2010

In recent years the Magic Faraway Tree books have been republished, they have lovely covers and are still very popular with children today, unfortunately, someone somewhere in the world thought it would be better to make the books pc, to do this they have changed the childrens names and in some places removed chapters completely. How ridiculous!! Yes times have changed, but generations of adults grew up reading these book and did it do them any harm? Grrrr! Yes i am having a rant, but these books have such fond memories for me, that i feel really annoyed that they have been tampered with.

Unfortunately my copies were given away when i was younger, and i refused to buy the newer versions, so i had to track these down via a famous auction site, and thank's to my partner's fast bidding i was able to get really good quality versions with no inscriptions for a really good price.

24 November 2010

Another snowy day and although some of the roads are a bit scary to drive on, it still looks really nice, and has that Christmassy feel about it.

23 November 2010

We have had more snow, and this time it has really settled making the fields i drive by (or at least what my partner drives by while he is driving me to work while the car is in the garage waiting for a part to arrive from Germany) look like a real winter scene.

22 November 2010

The cold weather is definately setting in and now we are having snow. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Narnia yet, but give it time.

21 November 2010

This is what happens when you visit your daughter at university and go to watch Harry Potter. I'm not saying this happens everytime you combine uni visits with Harry Potter, but just beware it could happen to you!

20 November 2010

My youngest nearly always refuses to have her photo taken, so after another attempt, i ended up with a photo of her hat. Not quite the photo i wanted it to be, but at least it makes a photo of the day!

19 November 2010

Yes, this is the moon, and yes, i did over estimate how good my camera is, but not a bad attempt!

18 November 2010

Chase is now back with us as she was too noisy with my daughter at uni and spent most of the time chewing the bars of her cage, she took particular interest in them at night, so the decision was made to bring her home, as the lack of sleep was having an impact on my daughter (yes i know there is an irony there as the assumption is that students rarely get much sleep, but that isn't the case when it is the final year). Now, Chase is a fiesty little thing and this pictures sums that attitude up completely!

17 November 2010

I know i shouldn't be, but i am always facinated with, plants and shrubs that have green foliage but red stems. Simple things, please simple minds.

16 November 2010

A friend had recently bought a book about some of the older streets in London and what they used to be called, some of them are not repeatable, but very funny. It got me wondering why certain roads, streets, avenues etc have the names they do, then i spotted this road name, could this have been given this name as it was where Jeremy Fisher used to live?!

15 November 2010

A couple of years ago i bought a dragon calendar in an attempt to organise myself, which worked, but then i couldn't find one the year after. Not one to give up, i thought i would try to find one for 2011, and after a number of online searches, i finally found one! If you are looking for a calendar try the Calendar Club www.calendarclub.co.uk

14 November 2010

The sun may be out, but in the shade the frost is widespread, and these leaves are more interesting because of it.

13 November 2010

For months my friend and i have planned do the Highgate Graveyard tour, but due to a horribly delayed train journey, i arrived in London too late to get to Highgate in time for their last tour of the day, so our plans are on hold until the 'essential maintenance' to the train line are finished, then we will try again. So, to compensate ourselves, we went to a S&M (sausage and mash) resturant, had something to eat, then headed over to Oxford Street to see the christmas lights, and to look in any shops that took our fancy. The lights this year have a Narnia theme and look amazing, but the displays in the Liberty's window really caught my eye. I'm not sure how jellyfish relate to Christmas, but they look good!

12 November 2010

It is my sister's birthday soon and as i have a reputation of always being late with cards, i'm pleased with myself for being organised enough to get a card before her birthday rather than after!

11 November 2010

Walking home from pilates at this time of year gives me opportunities to take pictures of things at night, especially as i now have a camera that can take pictures at night, this time it was an opportunity to take a picture of this white rose, just as it is starting to open.

10 November 2010

I really want one of these chandeliers, and i don't think this hotel would miss one as they have quite a few, but getting it down and then back home on the train might be a bit of an issue.

9 November 2010

It's nice to know that even in a business park, there are still pathways that are not surrounded by buildings and roads, plus if you look close enough you might see some fairytale folk.

8 November 2010

I have a work event to go to in the next few days, and went looking for some new shoes. During my expedition i came across these beautiful turquoise shoes. I have been after some turquoise shoes ever since i saw a Selfridges advert for the Alice in Wonderland display they were showing, the advert featured some turquoise shoes with stripey socks, unfortunately they were slightly out of my price range, so when i saw these, i was very happy. Unfortunately, when i tried them on i couldn't walk in them, and declined from buying them. My search goes on!

7 November 2010

This is some of the aftermath of bonfire night.

6 November 2010

What started off with being a small gathering, bonfire night turned into a house and garden full of people, most of them i knew, but a number i didn't. So after some very brief introductions and the question 'What are you doing in my house?', it turned out they had been invited by friends and as they had bought fireworks, i let them stay! It was an amazing night with the fireworks lasting for 45 mins, and thankfully not a raindrop in sight. Definately something to do again next year.

5 November 2010

I don't know anyone who loves Christmas more than my sister, and i thought i was bad. Anyway as she and her family were coming to stay for the weekend and watch the fireworks (which were going to be tonight but due to rain, we had to rearrange until tomorrow) she bought me an early Christmas pressie, it's nice to know there will be some snowflakes on Christmas day.

4 November 2010

Roses seem to grow throughout the year, and these look good at night as well as during the day.
