This is my first blog and it is my attempt to take more notice of the world around me. I plan to take a photo a day for 356 days, hopefully it will show that there are interesting things happening around me, and that my life isn't too dull!

Wish me luck.

26 February 2011

Last year I kept a journal of the flowers/plants/trees in my garden so that I knew what was growing and where, so that I could make a decision about what to keep and what to remove when I start rearranging the garden, somehow I managed to miss this clump of Crocuses, I can only assume they were hidden under various weeds and overgrown grass.

25 February 2011

It's a plague, before you know it there will be yellow daffodils everywhere, you won't be able to escape them, roll on the summer when there are more than yellow flowers to look at!

24 February 2011

Early flowering plants are popping up everywhere, the more imaginative people are planting them in areas of grass as a nice contrast to the green, or maybe it is a cunning way of keeping people off the grass.

23 February 2011

There have been roadworks taking place close to were I live for a number of months now, although they were only supposed to last for a few weeks. A few days ago I couldn't get out of my road as they were setting up to put new road marking down, I did eventually get out, but it was an interesting story as to why I was late for work!!

22 February 2011

I'm not one for wearing jewellary very often, but lately the odd piece seems to creep into my life, not only that but there seems to be a theme to the jewellary. This is the second owl necklace i have, and it was bought for me in Amesterdam when my daughter went there recently.

21 February 2011

The lilies from the bouquet have now fully opened and the scent is filling the room, unfortunately some of the other flowers have died.

20 February 2011

This is the third mouse i have caught in the last few months, the humane mouse trap is definitely paying for itself. A successful way of luring the mice in, is to either use peanut butter or a strawberry filled chocolate sweet. I feel mean capturing the mice and then releasing them outside at a suitable distance for them not to come back, but i would rather they were out of the house than in it!!

19 February 2011

This is a slab of very nice dark chocolate all the way from Amsterdam. It remains to be seen how long it lasts for!

18 February 2011

For some time now my family have been obsessed with glass coke bottles, so much so that if we eer come across one that if even slightly different to any we already have, then us usually comes home. Thankfully we haven't got that many (at one point every glass coke bottle was kept!), but this collection doesn't include the coke styled glasses that fill the cupboard!!

17 February 2011

The honeysuckle leaves are getting bigger, and if you look closely you can see a water droplet trapped in the leaves.

16 February 2011

Pilates was cancelled, my eldest daughter was still at uni and my youngest daughter was in Amsterdam, so when my partner suggested we go out for a meal as a belated Valentine's celebration, off we went. The restaurant was lovely but the company was better, we both had a really nice night.

15 February 2011

This is my attempt at an arty picture of my Snowdrops.

14 February 2011

This year the agreement was to not bother with Valentine's Day as we could do with saving the money, so what does my partner do? He turns up with a bunch of flowers and some very nice chocolates. I'd like to think he did it because he loves me, but my suspicious side suspects he did it to get one up on me as i hadn't bought him anything!!

13 February 2011

Daylight hours are getting longer, and there is a full moon, shame there is no face in it tonight.

12 February 2011

There was hardly a cloud in the sky apart from this giant one, maybe it absorbed all the others!

11 January 2011

I have taken pictures of this tree before, but the way the light shine through it is so nice, that i can never resit taking another picture.

10 January 2011

What is it with this car?! Before christmas it ended up in a garage for three weeks, to have a new drive shaft fitted, the petrol guage doesn't work, so i have no idea how much petrol i've got (apparently to fix it the whole tank has to come out) and now today it is a flat tyre, and not just any flat tyre, oh no.

The recovery driver arrived in a reasonable amount of time and straight away said it wouldn't take long. Why did he have to say that, doesn't he know that as soon as you say that something will go horribly wrong?! Anyway, to cut a long story short, one of the nuts had been put on so tightly that he couldn't undo it, and another had lost all of it's angled edges so was smooth, so he said he would repair the tyre so that i could get to a garage, that didn't work, so he tried to remove the nuts again, this time successfully, only to find out that the spare tyre (that came with the car when we bought it) should go on the back (the car is a 4 wheel drive), not the front where the flat had been, and not only that it is smaller than the others. He then told me as it was smaller it would be ineffective in wet conditions (it was raining at the time) and that i would have to drive straight home very carefully. So i did what most peole would do, drove to work, then left early so as to avoid the rush hour traffic!

9 February 2011

Ok, it has been over a month since Christmas and by this time most people have given up on their good intentions, not me. I have been semi-successful at not eating chocolate during the week (i have indulged my cravings a couple of times, but I'm eating far less chocolate than i did), and now i am avoiding carbs at lunchtimes. Today i'm having herby chicken (prepared by my daughter lastnight) with baby spinach and balsamic vinegar. Who said healthy eating had to be boring?!

8 February 2011

I walk passed these trees most lunchtimes, but i have never really looked at them properly, until now. What i had thought was a single row of trees is in fact two rows, and looks like a path way. There is something enchanting about these trees with the way the light is shining through them, it is just a shame there is a tarmac path running along side.

7 February 2011

These Snowdrops are the first flowers to bloom in my garden this year, last year they didn't flower until March, and yes this may be something to do with the impact we are having on our environment, but they stand out amongst the debris from last year.

6 February 2011

This was bought at a craft fair at Coombe Abbey in Coventry.

5 February 2011

I've been trying to find out what this plant/shrub is, it is an evergreen with distinctive red stalk, and would be ideal for replacing a hedge I have at home.

4 February 2011

Chase (the rabbit) has taken to moving the entire contents of her cage (apart from her food and water bowls) to the dark area underneath the platform in her cage, but when i removed the platform to clear her cage out, i wasn't expecting to find that she had lost enough fur to create another bunny!

3 February 2011

Spring might not be here just yet, but tell that to the plants.

2 February 2011

The Royal Albert Hall has it's own water! How fantastic is that!!

1 February 2011

After seeing La Nouba in Florida a few years ago, my family and i have become fans of Cirque du Soleil, so we were really pleased to find out that a new show comes to the Royal Albert Hall every year. For the past few years we have been going to the Albert Hall an amazing venue in itself, i still get blown away every time i go there, to see these shows, this year it was Totem, another amazing performance and one i would recommend seeing.

31 January 2011

Too cute!

30 January 2011

Green and Black's are my new best friends. I'm currently trying to give up eating chocolate during the week (unless someone makes a cake, or it is a special occasion or any other excuse i can come up with!), and thought a good incentive would be to have some nice chocolate at the weekend, so what better than Green and Black's. I'm going to stick to their dark chocolate range so that i will eat less, but first i just need to make sure that there are no more chocolates or chocolate biscuits around!

29 January 2011

It's an invasion, the pigeons are coming!!

28 January 2011

Today i learned that if you go looking for something, you may have the misfortune of finding what you are looking for. Like most people i have decided to be a bit healthier and in my case, reduce the amount of chocolate i eat, so once all the christmas chocolate was gone, i decided not to buy anymore apart from treating myself to a bar of Green and Blacks dark chocolate (only because it is organice and contains antioxidants!) at the weekend. Anyway, my craving was getting the best of me and so i went looking for some goodies, and what i found was this tin of chocolate biscuits that had been bought for Christmas, but was put aside and forgotten about. Oh well, I'll start being good again next week instead.

27 January 2011

This is a healthy, low fat quiche, and it actually tastes goooooood! All you need is a tub of quark, 3 eggs, bacon (optional), 1 onion, mushrooms (optional), cheese, and seasoning. Chop the onion and fry in a small amount of olive oil, if you are using bacon, cut the fat off slice and put in the pan with the onion and cook through. Put the quark, eggs and seasoning in a bowl and mix together. Grease an ovenproof dish, put the onions, bacon and mushrooms in, then pure in the quark and egg mixture and mix together, then sprinkle a small amount of cheese on top. Cook for 20 mins at a medium heat, and tadah it's ready.

26 January 2011

This is a magic box from Turkey, the idea is that you have to move certain parts in a set way and the box opens, but typically we forgot what the combination was by the time we got home, and the only person who can remember it is my youngest daughter!! It looks nice though.

25 January 2011

It may still be cold outside and there are regular morning frosts, but the plants are still growing as these honeysuckle buds show.
