This is my first blog and it is my attempt to take more notice of the world around me. I plan to take a photo a day for 356 days, hopefully it will show that there are interesting things happening around me, and that my life isn't too dull!

Wish me luck.

I thought it was time to show an updated photo of Chase, who has now been fully integrated into the family. My daughter took this picture after i ask her to as he kept moving and i didn't have the patience. We found out recently that Chase was born on 1 April 2010, so now he has an official birthday.

Sunday was another glorious day, so there was only one thing for it, bbq!! i should confess that i actually had two, one earlier in the day before my daughter had to go to work, then another later in the day when our next door neighbours came round!

Sometimes a parent has to pull rank on their kids, it doesn't happen very often, and probably isn't the right thing to do, but when my eldest daughter and i went to buy some clothes, i had to do the terrible deed. The issue of pulling rank revolves around the above t-shirt, i spotted it a split second before she did, therefore i got first dibs. She was gutted (tee hee), so knowing both of my daughters as well as any good parent does, i have taken a picture of the said t-shirt as i know it won't be long before i recognise it on one of them!!

Say hello to my new FitFlops. These are my second pair as the pair i bought last year are now less the presentable to the outside world (mental note, don't cut the grass in shoes with white soles, they will stay green for forever more). FitFlops, although not looking very attractive are incredibly comfortable, i recommend them to every one. They are also mean't to tone your legs and firm your bum, but i have to say, i can't see a great deal of difference, but then it isn't the easiest area to view!!

You may not believe it, but this picture is of Newton Faulkner (i borrowed my daughters camera but hadn't thought to ask how to use the zoom, and trying to figure it out in a very dark and crowded venue is not a good idea). My partner and i went to see him at the Assembley Rooms in Leamington Spa, however, the odds were against us. Between my partner and i trying to do far too many tasks before heading out, we ended up being late. Then, half way there the car ran out of petrol! Thankfully a really kind chap pulled over and asked if we needed any help, he then went off to get some petrol so that we could at least make it to the petrol station. Newton Faulkner was due to be on stage at 9 and this was ten to. Thankfully, because of the help we recieved from the passinging driver we were able to make it before he came on stage.

I have to say that i haven't really followed Newton Faulkner, and although i have downloaded a couple of his songs, i have only heard him in interview on Radio 1. He seemed genuine, and very funny, so i bought the tickets. I would have been happy just to hear him sing Tear Drop, as his cover is fantastic, but his live performance was amazing, he has the most fantastic voice, and i have never seen anyone use a guitar in the way he does. I will definately go and see him again, and would reccommed seeing him to anyone else.

I'm not a fan of yellow flowers, and have a real dislike for daffodils, but when i say this to people the expression on their faces is like i have just said i eat puppies for breakfast! Is it really so terrible that i think they are a plague?! Anyway, back to the photo, because of my 'issue' with daffodils, i decided i would remove all plants with yellow flowers from the garden, little did i realise that something as beautiful as this rose would appear and change my opinion of yellow flowers. I still dislike daffs, and will never knowingly buy any, but i have seriously reconsidered my opinion of yellow flowers in general.

I am very much a creature of habit, therefore i always park in the same place when i arrive at work. Today was another glorious day, and i had to go to the orthodontist, so left my trusted spot open, unfortunately when i got back, all the shaded spaces were taken, and my poor car was left out in the sun all on it's own. Altogether now 'Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'!

21 June 2010

Today is Midsummers Day. The sun was out and although there were some clouds in the sky, they never threatened rain. As lovely as it was, it also means the start of shorter daylight hours, noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

20 June 2010

For Father's Day, my daughters bought their father a selection of coffees. He loves coffee and this was the perfect present, especially as he wasn't expecting it.

19 June 2010

On Saturday my youngest daughter and i took part in the first charity walk organised to raise money for a local charity, The Myton Hospice http://www.mytonhospice.org/ The Twighlight Walk was held at Coombe Abbey and raised approximately £10,000.

It had been a long time since i last visited Coombe Abbey and i had forgotton just how beautiful the grounds were. It was the perfect time of night to do the walk as the sun was still out, and apart from the other walkers, there were very few people around.

18 June 2010

A friend of mine will be leaving the place we work together for pastures new. As tradition dictates (and rightly so) a group of us went out for something to eat and to have a drink (non alcoholic for me). The place we went to was in Coventry, the city i grew up in. Coventry has a bad repuation as being a concrete jungle, but people don't always realise that it is one of the oldest cities (originally town) in the UK, and this picture shows one of the older areas in the city centre. Not bad at all really.

17 June 2010

This hollow, burnt out tree is a complete contrast to the greenery around it. It stands in a field facing other healthy green trees. It seems so sad that what must have been a magnificent tree at some point has had such a demise.

16 June 2010

I walk passed these osteospermum most days, but because of the traditional British weather (dull or wet), they are usually closed, but today they were all open, and what a pleasure it is to see!

15 June 2010

Taking my usual walk around the garden to see what is new, i saw this dragon fly. Never thinking i would actually be able to find it again, i got the camera in the hope it would still be there. Clearly this one wanted it's 15 minutes of fame as it was still there waiting for me to take a photo.

14 June 2010

Depending on where i am, i don't mind being stuck in traffic, it gives me an opportunity to have a good look around. This stretch of road is on my way home, and due to temporary traffic lights i had time to put the brake on and look around. I am quite lucky as my route home takes me passed fields and along tree lined roads and this is the view as i look up through my windscreen (while sitting waiting for the traffice lights to change that is).

13 June 2010

I have strawberries! Home grown strawberries! Admittedly i can't take the credit for planting and nurturing them as the previous owner did that, but hey, i live here now so i can say 'i have strawberries'. The strawberries themselves are tiny (alpine i think they are called), but should be nice. The blue plastic under them is an attempt to reduce the significant weed population growing in and around the same area as the strawberries are growing.

12 June 2010

I know there is a world outside my own garden, but when there are so many opportunities to take photos without going to other places, who am i to argue?! I was taking my usual walk around the garden to see what new flowers had opened, when i spotted this ladybird. Although there are a number of ladybirds out there, this one caught my eye as it had so many spots, i don't think i have seen a ladybird with so many spots before.

11 June 2010

Today i took an alternative route for my lunchtime walk. The sun was out and so were the ducks. I know there is a saying about ducks and rain (which i can't quite remember at the moment), but they certainly seemed to be enjoying the sun!

10 June 2010

It is thursday, which means one thing, pilates. I go every thursday in the hope that it will do my back and shoulders some good, but secretly i hope to end up with the body of a much fitter person. Well i can dream!

9 June 2010

You've guessed it more rain! But if it hadn't been for today's rain i wouldn't have been able to take this picture of water droplets on the leaves of this plant. The big droplet looks more like a bead of silver about to drop off the leaf. Maybe water droplets like this were the inspiration for the saying 'every cloud has a silver lining'.

8 June 2010

Well the good weather didn't last, and after raining all night the plants got a good watering. Although it looks bright in this picture, the water droplets under the arm of the garden bench tell a different story.

7 June 2010

Here are two tree stumps that i'm sure the local council had good reason to create, maybe for the local gnomes, fairies, beatrix potter characters or magic faraway creatures, but that is just my opinion.

6 June 2010

These are a pair of sandals i bought yesterday, i thought as the sun seems to be putting in more of an appearence, and the temperature is much nicer, i would treat myself and after seeing these in a shop with a friend a couple of weeks ago, i couldn't help myself! Let the good weather continue, although it did rain briefly this afternoon!

5 June 2010

I really like this photo for a few reasons, for starters it is of a bumble bee, secondly i'm impressed i actually got a clear photo, and finally, you can see is little shadow! The flower he was about to land on is from the Rosa family, it has fragrant pink flowers, but incredibly thorny stems.

4 June 2010

This one speaks for itself!!

3 June 2010

You have to look closely at this one, believe it or not there is actually a bird in this photo! This was a slightly hurried picture as i was just about to leave for work when i saw the bird in the bush. Unfortunately i have no idea what species the bird is, although i will find out.

2 June 2010

This little fellow was bought when we went to the Dominican Republic a few years ago. The figure represnts one of the gods worshipped by the original habitants of the Dominican Republic called the Taino. Unfortunately the Taino, like so many races, no longer exist.

The wording inside the card attached to the figure says:

God of the Sun
The God of the Sun comes out of a cave which lies in the territory of the 'cacique' leader Mautiatibuel (child of dawn). Also known as the God of Sunrise, he returns to the cave when the moon comes out.

1 June 2010

Meet Chase the new and very unexpected addition to the family! This is what happens when your daughter is back from uni for the summer and has a day off work. He is of the Netherland Dwarf variety and is tiny!

31 May 2010

This is the book i am reading at the moment. It was lent to me after i had a conversation with a work colleague about seeing Blur live at the MEN in Manchester last year. The gig was amazing, they even had Phil Daniels there to do his part of Parklife! I haven't got too far into the book yet, although i love to read, i find i have very little time to do so.
